Vanda Hepatica Nova

In May 2025, Singapore hosted the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) Annual Congress for the first time in conjunction with the National University Hospital’s National University Centre for Organ Transplantation (NUCOT). To mark this occasion, an orchid hybrid was named and unveiled at the ILTS Annual Congress Opening Ceremony on 28 May 2025.

Named Vanda Hepatica Nova, which means ‘new liver’, this orchid symbolises renewal and the second chance at life made possible through liver transplantation. Chosen for its deep red hues reflecting the colour of a healthy liver, the orchid’s vibrant blooms represent the hope and vitality restored to patients.

This orchid also honours the generosity of donors and their families and serves as a reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation.
